    Lancaster Writing Award 2018

    The Department of English and Creative Writing at Lancaster University is pleased to announce the return of its prestigious international writing competition for its sixth year. In association with Cake Magazine, the Awards aim to recognise emerging critical and creative writing talent.

    • Criticism
    • Poetry
    • script and Screen Writing

    You may enter in more than one category, and write in any style you wish. You can also submit something you’ve worked on as part of your coursework at school or college.

    Your work will be read and judged by Terry Eagleton, poet Paul Farley, novelist Jenn Ashworth, and playwright Tajinder Hayer.

    There is no entry fee.


    Open to year 12 or 13 students (in the UK), or in the final two years of your secondary education (for international students).


    Prizes: 100 GBP, 50 GBP and 25 GBP in book vouchers.

    The first prize winner will be published in the student journal, Cake. A longlist will be announced in April, with a final shortlist for the awards published in May. The winners will receive their awards in the summer.
