    2019 ABR Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize

    Australian Book Review welcomes entries in the 2019 ABR Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize, one of the world’s leading prizes for an original short story. The ABR Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize is worth a total of 12,500 AUD (approx. 8,800 USD).

    Entries must be a single story of 2,000 to 5,000 words, written in English. Stories can be on any subject and in any style.

    Entries must be submitted online.

    The 2019 judges are Maxine Beneba Clarke, John Kinsella, and Beejay Silcox.

    Entry fee:

    • Current ABR subscriber: 15 AUD (approx. 10.60 USD)
    • Full-time student: 15 AUD (approx. 10.60 USD)
    • Standard/non-subscriber: 25 AUD (approx. 17.60 USD)

    Eligibility


    Open to writers from anywhere in the world. There is no age limit.

    Prize


    • 1st prize: 5,000 AUD (approx. 3,520 USD)
    • 2nd prize: 3,000 AUD
    • 3rd prize: 2,000 AUD
    • The three commended stories will share the remaining 2,500 AUD in prize money.

    The three shortlisted stories will be published in the August 2019 issue, both in the print edition and ABR Online.
