University Of Canberra Vice-Chancellor's Poetry Prize 2019

Organised by the University of Canberra, the prize celebrates the enduring significance of poetry to cultures everywhere in the world and its ongoing and often seminal importance to world literature.

It marks the University of Canberra’s commitment to creativity and imagination in all that it does and builds on the work of the International Poetry Studies Institute in identifying poetry as a highly resilient and sophisticated human activity. It also builds on the activities of the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research, which conducts wide-ranging research into human creativity and culture.

All poems entered for the prize must be single poems with a maximum length of 50 lines and be no more than 1,000 words in total. Entries can be on any subject.

Entries must be written primarily in English (only a few words in another language or languages are permitted). To be eligible for the prize a poem should not have been published or performed in any publicly available format, in part or in whole.

    Entry fee:

    • 20 AUD per poem if submitted before 28 February 2019
    • 25 AUD per poem if submitted between 1 March and 30 June 2019
    • There are discounts for students

Entries may be submitted from any place in the world and you don’t have to be a previously published poet to enter. All entrants must be 18 years of age or over.

The winner will receive 15,000 AUD (approx. 10,870 USD). The runner-up (second-placed poem) will receive 5,000 AUD (approx. 3,620 USD).

The 2019 prize will be announced in October 2019 and prize winners and short-list will be notified prior to that.
