    Peter Porter Poetry Prize 2020

Organised by the Australian Book Review, and now in its sixteenth edition, the Peter Porter Poetry Prize is one of Australia’s most lucrative and respected awards for poetry. It honours the life and work of the great Australian poet Peter Porter (1929–2010), an honoured contributor to ABR for many years.

Entries must be a single poem of no more than 70 lines, written in English. Poems can be on any subject and in any style.

Entries should not be on offer to other publications or prizes or anthologies for the duration of the Porter Prize. Previously published, shortlisted, prize-winning or broadcast poems will not be accepted.

This year the Peter Porter Poetry Prize will be judged by John Hawke, Bronwyn Lea, and Philip Mead.

Each entry must be accompanied by an entry fee of 25 AUD (approx. 18 USD), or 15 AUD (approx. 11 USD) for current ABR subscribers. Full-time students are also eligible to enter at the lower rate.

Open worldwide to all poets writing in English.

    • First Prize: 7,000 AUD (approx. 4,750 USD)
    • Four other shortlisted poets: 500 AUD each

The five shortlisted poems will be published in the January–February 2020 issue and the winner will be announced at a ceremony later that month.
