    The Bridport Prize 2019

    The Bridport Prize is an international creative writing competition established in 1973 by the Arts Centre’s founder Peggy Chapman-Andrews.

    All entries submitted can be on any subject, and written in any style or form.

    Poems: 42 lines max. No minimum. title not included.
    Short stories: 5000 words max. No minimum. title not included.
    Flash fiction: 250 words max. No minimum. title not included.
    Novel: 8,000 words max. 5,000 words minimum from opening chapters and 300-word synopsis.

    Please note: the Novel Award is currently only open to writers in Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

    Entries must be in English. Entries must never have been published, self-published, published on any website, blog or online forum, broadcast nor winning or placed (as in 2nd, 3rd, runner-up etc) in any other competition.

    Entry fees:

    • 8 GBP for each submitted flash fiction
    • 9 GBP for each submitted poem
    • 10 GBP for each submitted short story
    • 20 GBP for each submitted novel

    Eligibility


    Open to writers of any nationality writing in English, 16 years old and over at the time of the closing date.

    Prize


    • 1st prize Poem: 5,000 GBP (approx. 6,390 USD)
    • 1st prize Short story: 5,000 GBP
    • 1st prize Flash fiction: 1,000 GBP (approx. 1,275 USD)
    • 1st prize Novel award: 1,000 GBP
