    Ploughshares Emerging Writer's Contest 2019

    Organised by Ploughshares, an American literary journal, the Emerging Writer’s Contest is open worldwide to writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry who have yet to publish or self-publish a book.

    There are three categories:

    Fiction (under 6000 words)
    Nonfiction (under 6000 words)
    Poetry (3-5 pages)

    Submitted work must be original and previously unpublished in any form.

    The 2019 contest judges are Ottessa Moshfegh (Fiction), Leslie Jamison (Nonfiction), and Fatimah Asghar (Poetry).

    Entry fee is 24 USD. The fee includes a 1-year subscription to Ploughshares. (If you are a current subscriber through the Winter 2019-2020 issue, your contest entry is free of charge)

    Eligibility


    Open worldwide to writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry who have yet to publish or self-publish a book.

    Prize


    The winning story, essay, and poems will be published in the Winter 2019-20 issue of Ploughshares. Each winning author will receive 2,000 USD.
