    Manchester Writing Competition 2018

Established by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy in 2008, the Manchester Writing Competition is the UK’s biggest literary awards for unpublished work.

Designed to encourage and celebrate new writing across the globe, the competition is open internationally to new and established writers.

Each year two prizes are awarded:

    • The Manchester Poetry Prize for best portfolio of poems
    • The Manchester Fiction Prize for best short story

Entries should be written in English. You can enter an English translation of a poem/story written in a different language as long as the original work, as well as the translation is your own. Short extracts or quotations in non-English languages are fine.

All work can be on any subject, and written in any style or form, but must be the entrant’s own original writing, and should not have appeared in print or appear on a website or have been broadcast, for the duration of the Manchester Poetry Prize.

Entry fee is 17.50 GBP (approx. 24 USD).

    Eligibility

Open worldwide to new and established writers aged 16 or over.

    Prize

10,000 GBP (approx. 13,950 USD) prize for the best short story of up to 2,500 words.
10,000 GBP (approx. 13,950 USD) prize for the best portfolio of three to five poems.
