    Calibre Essay Prize 2018

    Australian Book Review welcomes entries in the twelfth Calibre Essay Prize. The Calibre Prize, founded in 2007, is one of the world’s leading prizes for an original non-fiction essay.

    Entries must be a single essay of 3,000 to 6,000 words, written in English. Essays can be on any non-fiction subject. You may illustrate your essay, but the total file size should not exceed 3 MB. Previously published, prize-winning, or broadcast essays will not be accepted.

    This year the Calibre Essay Prize will be judged by Andrea Goldsmith, Phillipa McGuinness, and Peter Rose (ABR Editor and CEO).

    Entry fee is 25 AUD (approx. 19 USD), or 15 AUD for current ABR subscribers and full-time student.

    Eligibility


    Open worldwide to anyone who is writing in English. There is no age limit.

    Prize


    The winner will receive 5,000 AUD (approx. 3,850 USD)
    The runner-up will receive 2,500 AUD

    The winning essay will be published in ABR’s 400th issue in April 2018.
